Acura’s flagship luxury sedan is back for the new year, and all in on hybrid technology! The all-new 2018 Acura RLX now in Richmond in our showroom at Richmond Acura has been spruced up, modernized and fitted with a choice of two hybrid powertrains to meet the expectations of today’s discerning, eco-conscious driver. We’re proud to offer it to our B.C. Lower Mainland customers.
Modernized look. Sporting the distinctive new diamond-shaped front grille that is being added to all of Acura’s next-generation models, the new RLX has seen its front end get a significant makeover, making it even more sporty and forward-looking than before, and the full beneficiary of Acura’s new Precision Crafted Performance design esthetic. The LED headlights have been restyled, the hood redrawn with more aggressive lines; as well, 19-inch wheels, dual chrome exhaust finishers, glossy black rear diffusers and chrome-tipped air intakes have been added to up the wow factor.
In the words of Acura Vice-President and General Manager Jon Ikeda, “this redesign of the 2018 Acura RLX is transformational, creating road presence and styling that better reflect underlying performance capabilities of the vehicle." We couldn’t have said it better ourselves!
Hybrid powertrains. The two versions of the 2018 Acura RLX – the RLX and the RLX Sport – are each powered by the same hybrid set-up, which includes three electric motors working in conjunction with a powerful 3.5L V6 engine. How powerful? The V6 produces 377 hp and 341 lb-ft of torque, placing it well ahead of the likes of the BMW 530e, for example!
Sport-minded DNA. Many of the mechanical and technological elements of the 2018 RLX have been taken from or inspired by components of the Acura NSX supercar, itself also powered by latest-generation hybrid technology. The result is precision handling, strong manoeuvrability and road grip, and impressive acceleration. Clearly, Acura has responded to expectations modern consumers have that luxury four-door sedans need to be performance-minded as well.
High-end interior. For the 2018 model-year, Acura engineers and designers matched the exterior upgrades brought to the RLX with new premium materials and finishes for the cabin. Occupants get to enjoy new Milano leather seats decked with contrasting stitching and piping, as well as a new Saddle Brown interior colour scheme (with available black headliner), not to mention a 14-speaker ELS Studio premium audio system and a split-screen infotainment screen display. Drivers will particularly appreciate the heated steering wheel and the two-way remote starter!
Focus on safety. Unsurprisingly, the new 2018 Acura RLX gets its fair share and then some of the latest innovative safety and drive-assist systems developed by the company, making it one of the best-equipped models in its class for ensuring passenger safety. Systems like active lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control and low-speed follow make driving in traffic effortless and safe. Also, ask us at Richmond Acura about the Tech and Elite packages!
