First Look at the Revised Acura RDX!

The North American International Auto Show in Detroit, held annually near the end of January, is a highlight of the car show circuit, with many manufacturers presenting first looks at new or updated models that will be launching during the year to come. At Richmond Acura, we were thrilled this week to see the concept version of the brand-new 2019 Acura RDX luxury SUV, which represents an important update of what is still one of the top-selling models in its class in Canada.

We should point out that though the model unveiled in Detroit is a concept, it is virtually production-ready; we expect to be displaying the new 2019 Acura RDX in our Richmond showroom by the middle of this year!

Athletic Coupe-Style SUV

So how has the new 2019 RDX SUV been upgraded and revised? It starts, of course, with a new exterior design based in large part on Acura’s futuristic Precision concept, which sets the chassis lower to the ground, stretches and widens it, and gives it sleeker, sportier contours. Think coupe-style SUV, but with tons of interior space and versatility! Other good news is that the 2019 RDX will be offered in the A-Spec version, which adds sportier design elements. The launch in Detroit also revealed the stunning revised pentagonal grille that adorns the new Acura RDX’s front end, flanked by Acura’s next-generation Jewel-Eye LED headlights.

Performance-wise, the focus when developing the next-generation RDX was to enhance the exhilaration factor. Thus the powertrain is all-new, its 2.0L VTEC turbo engine working with the 10-speed automatic transmission (unique in the segment) to deliver 40% more torque at low RPM, which translates into outstanding acceleration and passing power. Acura has also equipped the new 2019 RDX with the most advanced version yet of its exceptional SH-AWD super-handling all-wheel drive system, now with torque vector control. This, in turn, translates into amazing road grip in rain, snow, ice, slush and all sorts of extreme conditions. Drivers, by the way, can customize their driving experience at all times by switching between four drive modes: Sport, Sport+, Comfort and Snow. (Notice that there’s none called Ordinary!)

Refined, user-friendly interior

Upgrades are also on the menu in the interior of the new 2019 Acura RDX. Buyers will get Acura’s brand-new True Touchpad Interface, which includes a 10-inch touchscreen matched with (and connected to) a touchpad; each spot on the touchpad is mapped precisely with the corresponding action displayed on the touchscreen. This is designed to allow drivers to keep their eyes on the road while having all the necessary controls easily at their fingertips. Also available as an option will be an advanced head up display. Increased comfort, meanwhile, is provided by the newly designed front sport seats, and premium materials used throughout the cabin, including Napa leather, brushed aluminum and open-pore ash wood.

Improved safety

We’re happy to report that the new 2019 Acura RDX will come equipped with the outstanding AcuraWatch package of drive assist technologies, latest-generation AcuraLink system, surround-view camera and advanced safety functionalities like rear cross traffic monitor and a blind spot information system.

We’ll be sharing additional details on the redesigned new 2019 Acura RDX SUV as its market date approaches. Stay tuned right here for updates on an SUV we’re confident will continue to dominate its segment, and appeal to drivers everywhere in Richmond and on the Lower Mainland of BC!
